PUBLIC SAFETY CADETS UNIT 740

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Public Safety Cadet Unit is always looking for well-qualified young men and women to join the post!

The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office Explorer program was adopted in 1995. Since then it has been renamed to Public Safety Cadet Unit to better match our mission. The program has grown to its current authorized size of 20 Cadets and their advisers.

The Cadet program is designed to attract young, well-qualified men and women to participate in an organized, on-the-job training program that will prepare them for a career in law enforcement once they reach age 21 when they become eligible to become a Peace Officer in Georgia.

Among other things, the Cadet program provides training in the duties, responsibilities, methods, and techniques of the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office. Those participating in the Cadet program are expected to gain practical knowledge of the functions of the Sheriff's Office and some of the basic theories of law enforcement. Cadets who are attending college and who are studying courses such as police science, criminal justice, criminology, and other related courses will be given the opportunity to complement their education with actual performance in the Sheriff's Office.

In addition, Cadets are taught the responsibilities of becoming a Peace Officer and the commitment that comes with a career in law enforcement. In the discharge of this responsibility, we must realize and accept that all operations are in the best interest of public safety and welfare.

The Public Safety Cadet Unit is open to students between the ages of 14 and 20 years of age. Cadets must maintain a minimum of a 2.0 scholastic average. If in college, students must be enrolled in at least one course. Cadets must also have and maintain a clean driving record and must not have been convicted of a serious crime. Public Safety Cadet Unit candidates must also be in good physical condition.

The Public Safety Cadet Unit meets every Tuesday at 6:00 PM at the FCSO North Precinct located at 2310 Keith Bridge Road Cumming, GA 30040.
